May I please close my DU account (and be banned) ?

This discussion thread was locked by EarlG (a host of the DU Community Help forum).

I really don't feel like I belong here.

Please, DU, this is not a plea for "please stay" replies or sympathy. If anything, it is a plea for "Don't let the door hit you..."

Thank you Admins,
Agalisgv

Might you want to take some time off? You've been here since 2016.

And some are too personal to share.

The negativity. The cynicism. I know there are a lot of places on social media where people are rejoicing in the assassination of a CEO just before Christmas...

The Christian-bashing has to be on the top on my list, too. There is nothing I can do to change the minds of atheists. I no longer try.

So I'm dusting off my sandals so-to-speak.

this is the one life we have for sure and as good or as bad as it may sometimes seem, we should all rejoice that we are here.

I hate to see you go or hopefully change your mind. Interaction both positive and negative is how we learn and grow. None of us have the answers, but the sharing of our ideas is what makes us uniquely human.

As far as religion, I don't think anyone has the authority to tell someone how to believe or not. It is a personal choice, and the one thing that causes so much turmoil and frustration is when religion is mixed with politics. In my opinion it should have no part in our political discourse and when it does causes anger and even worse.

I do think you should hang around and not let your emotions get the best of you. We are all just doing the best we can. ☮

my emotions got the best of me a long time ago.

This is a decision I am 100% certain about. And not only based on emotions.

Thank you for your kind words, though.

Past similar threads suggest messaging EarlG directly.

I've never seen a definitive answer or reply from admins though, so who knows for sure.

There should be a clear way to delete one's account and all comments if the need or desire arises, especially now with the incoming fascist regime threatening retribution to it's adversaries. Or if one just decides to rage quit, to each their own, the reason shouldn't matter.

It would be nice if the issue were clearly and definitively addressed one day, as this topic has come up here several times before. If it has ever been properly responded to directly by admins, I have missed that, and would appreciate a link directing me to the official answer.

Barring a thorough removal of your account and content by admins, you could always try self-sabotage by violating the TOS, though I wouldn't recommend that. Better would be to reset your password to something impossible to remember, then forget it. Of course that still leaves your account and all content in place for public view, and the possibility that it may someday fall into the hands of bad actors, or otherwise be used against you. I can't imagine the effort it would take to try deleting each post individually, especially with a high-post account.

Until and unless a self-removal option is provided by DU admins, this question will continue to arise.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

Maybe it was just a suggestion that someone made on that occasion.

It's discouraging that didn't get you a reply. It's a question that comes up frequently, you are not alone.

I respect your desire to remove your account and content, for whatever reason.

I freely admit I’ve been bashing self-described Christians on the right for giving the faith a bad name because of their hypocrisy and supporting policies clearly at odds with Jesus’ teachings. Please don’t leave on my account .
