Sheriff Ron Hickman told reporters at the scene of the shooting at Knight Transportation, that the co-worker who was killed appeared to be a supervisor. He did not release the names of those killed.

"The suspect is believed to have taken his own life after being terminated early this morning," the sheriff's office said on its Twitter feed. It added that the suspect, armed with a shotgun and a pistol, fired at multiple employees.

"Only the shotgun was used," Hickman said, adding that the shooting was "a retaliatory act."

Was Texas a place where a law was passed that allowed employees to carry firearms in their vehicles at their work place?

2. Wouldn't matter much

it's a national trucking operation, many drivers carry weapons whether permitted or not given that a robbery could happen at any time and any place, having a gun seems to make many of them feel less vulnerable. If they feel they need their guns, they'll have them handy, legally or not.

Any comment I might make would probably be colored by my general impression of Texas. I'm still trying to figure out what Sheriff Hickman meant when he said the shooting was a retaliatory act. I don't think the Sheriff said it to excuse or justify the shooting, but I don't know for a fact that he didn't mean it that way.
