Sullivan recall fails; where's their embarrassment?

For those who wonder why Republicans keep losing in Colorado, we give you the latest GOP fail, in which Kristi Burton Brown, vice-chair of the state Republican Party, officially ended her doomed-from-the-start recall effort against state Rep. Tom Sullivan.

The idea, as I may have written before, was not simply wrong-headed, but also a textbook case of political ineptitude.

We can sum up the ineptitude in one sentence: Republicans sought to recall a murder victim’s father for sponsoring a bill he had campaigned on — in his son Alex’s name — that he hoped would save the lives of other people’s sons or daughters.

-Snip-

And if this attempted recall of Sullivan — whose son Alex was killed in the Aurora theater massacre — seemed ridiculous to you, it seemed that way, too, to many around the nation when they heard of it. And to the gun-safety groups who leaned in with money support. And to the national Democratic politicians who offered help, including U.S. Sens. Chris Murphy, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.

In 2013 a recall of Democratic Colorado Senators over gun control was successful (with much outside help), but In the November 2014 Senate elections 13 months later, both Republicans Rivera and Herpin were defeated by large margins by their Democratic opponents.

Red Flag gun laws work, are entirely constitutional, and voters are supporting them nationwide. Trump, the NRA, Second Amendment absolutists, and gun nuts in general have their panties in a twist because common-sense gun control is gaining wide spread acceptance with Americans who are tired of the carnage on our streets caused by the gun violence epidemic.
