Just spent over 3.5 hours with The Brutalist,

one of this year’s most highly acclaimed films. There was a 15 minute built-in intermission which I appreciated. I thought the film was good, not great, but the most impressive aspect of the film was how much the director, Brady Corbet, was able to achieve with just a 10 million dollar budget, which is quite measly for such a monumental project. Adrian Brody was exceptional in the role of an architect /holocaust survivor and his immigrant experience in America and his journey trying to achieve the American dream. Felicity Jones, as his wife, was also stellar. I thought the billionaire character, played by Guy Pearce, who plays the architect’s rich benefactor was kind of cartoonishly written, but was impactful nonetheless. The film is kind of a downer in the long, very long, run. Anybody else see this film?

Well acted, but my sympathy fir the Adrian Brody character eroded as the big project wore on. He behaved badly and pretty much blew the amazing opportunity he was given.

It was on the long side, but I don't think it could have been told in a shorter way. Not the happiest film. But pretty powerful.
