LA Confidential

Watching for the first time on free YouTube movies, about halfway through and took a break to feed the cat and check DU/news headlines.

At first, I wasn’t all that impressed but it’s taking a turn for the better now (if it’s going the way I think it is…) I’ve always heard great things about this movie, hope it lives up.

It was really good! I don’t have much love for police so the corruption, bigotry, and brutality in the first half, with not one cop seeming to have a single decent bone in their body, rubbed me the wrong way. Once Guy Pierce hooked up with Kevin Spacey I knew where it was going. Russell Crowe was outstanding. Simon Baker looked like a teenager with his little baby face, lol! I really enjoyed it, despite being so uncomfortable with the first half. The payoff was worth it.

ETA: I especially enjoyed the chemistry between Crowe and Kim Basinger (who was also wonderful in this). It made me realize how, these days, in way too many movies, they just throw together whatever A List actor with whatever A List Actress for name value. It’s rare to see real, believable chemistry like that anymore.

Today...too much show time is shoot them up/crash the car stuff thru 60% or more of the movie....bland, predictable characters/ cookie cutter stuff...

L A Confidential gave you a mode to sense the heart of each character....soooo well done.

I just have to see it every other year or so. When we traveled more, on international flights I would see if it was available, and have watched it at least twice crossing the Atlantic (I found it pairs well with wine). Just something about it, a lot of great actors with gripping roles.

Maybe it's because I live in SoCal, but Chinatown is another fave of mine.

Rollo Tomassi!
