I just happened to switch channels to that game to see what was going on and about 10 seconds later she was on the floor grabbing her knee.
I knew it was bad immediately.
Cartilage, patella or the tendons and the like, the player knows they're hurt. But, people as tough as these high level athletes don't go down in a heap grabbing the injured part unless it's really bad.
The crawl on ESPN says the ACL is torn.
The odds of USC to win the tournament went from 9:1 to 22:1 overnight.

(12,628 posts)My husband said ACL tear the minute he saw it. She is such a great player, it makes me cry.
I had one years ago when I was young and playing co-rec softball. I knew it was bad when I hit the ground.

(72,124 posts)She was just in so much immediate pain & she went right for the knee with both hands.
When I saw the ESPN crawl, I was not at all surptised.

(72,124 posts)She's making a lit of money at USC. The rookie scale in the W wouldn't be more than 10 or 12% of what she already makes. She's making over 3/4ths of a million now.
She might have spent another year in college even without getting hurt.
Clark stayed her maximum. With NiL, I think women staying 3 or 4 years is going to be common.
It's not like the NBA where all the lottery picks are going to make at least $7 million a year.
The women simply aren't as financially motivated to leave early.
