TCU defeats Notre Dame to advance to Elite 8

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — TCU Women's basketball defeated No. 3 seeded Notre Dame 71-62, sending the team to its first Elite Eight appearance in school history.

The Horned Frogs trailed at halftime but came out strong in the second half. Hailey Van Lith, who has significant championship experience with her former team Louisville and LSU, emerged as the game's top scorer with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. She also broke TCU's single-season scoring record.

She scored 18 of her 26 points in the second half.

The 23-year-old Van Lith is TCU's leading scorer at 17.6 points a game and was both the Big 12 player and newcomer of the year. She went to a Final Four and two Elite Eight games in three seasons with Louisville before going to another Elite Eight last season with LSU.

When TCU made the CFP a few years ago they adopted the Hypno Toad 🐸 from Futurama as their unofficial mascot.

The creator of Hypno Toad 🐸 revealed the backstory at that time .

Those ladies will be watching the rest of the season on televison while other "lesser" backcourts play on.

I'd like to see a TCU/UConn matchup in the finals. Van Lith and Bueckers know each other well, and have played in AAUs and on national teams together multiple times. But they've never been on the same court in college.

Right now, UConn is playing worlds better team basketball than anybody else. I can't imagine them losing against USC. The last time they played South Carolina they blew them out on their home court. Only UCLA is a test, in my view.
