Mabrey was protecting a teammate.

(6,360 posts)Her teammate hit CC in the face and kept going at her when Caitlin backed away, so Caitlin shoved her away. It was clear Sheldon was going for Caitlin's eye. Sheldon is the one with the reputation from college - a total thug, as is Mabrey. CC has skills far beyond most in the WNBA, and they are so jealous of her, they want to take her out via injuring her.
If you think CC has a reputation as a bully from college, you obviously never watched her then. Her opponents and their fans are over-the-top jealous.

(73,332 posts)Clark put up with a lot of dirty shots her rookie year.
It looks like she's tired of it & plans to take no more of it lying down.

(29,664 posts)Draymond Green does a dirty shot nearly every game.
Not sure why it is always big news when Caitlin Clark receives a hard foul. I remember on Sunday Angel Reese was actually yanked down by her hair when she was going for a rebound but no threads.

(73,332 posts)That's what is shocking.
You actually think there is a star & fan impact comparison between Clark & Reese.
I watch Sky games here in Chicago. The Sky doesn't play at the United Center. They play at Wintrust to 65% attendance. 7k per game & they're one of the more financially successful franchises in the league.
The Fever plays in front of 18k every night. You know very well why.
And, Draymond Green every foible is on display on national TV every time he commits one. It's silly to say that it's no big deal. He does something dirty, and on ESPN it's discussed on Unsportsmanlike, Get Up, First Take, NBA Today, PTI, & Sportscenter for at least an entire day.
Your argument is specious.

(29,664 posts)The game was aired nationally on CBS rather than a local broadcast but it was probably the hardest foul I saw this year in the WNBA.
I'm going back to last year in one of Caitlin's Clark first few games there was a hard foul which I'm sure she wouldn't even make a big deal about it but it was treated as a national story and I remember one of the WNBA on ESPN analysts was on John Stewart saying she couldn't believe that were going to talk about it during sports shows as it was really something you'd see in any game.
I don't watch the vast majority of sports shows on ESPN especially Pat McAfee so I concede the argument on Draymond Green but what I see here is not much different than I would see in a playoff basketball game in the NBA.
I was trying to respond to several arguments in the thread in my earlier post.

(73,332 posts)First, she got poked in the eye on a reckless ball swipe.
Then, the "poker" body checked her for no reason as she was holding her eye & not looking.
Then, she pushed the opponent off and as she was backing away the Sun's big steamroller her.
How you came up with Clark being a bully here is incomprehensible.
She got tagged 3 times, 2 of them from the blind side.
And, she's the bully?

(73,332 posts)That player appeared to be looking for an excuse to flatten her.
If she doesn't get a 1 game suspension for that, the WNBA has a problem.
There's already too much rough stuff. It's like the NBA of 1985 to 1998. They cleaned that up because the league said it wasn't how basketball should be played.
Now it's ok 30 years later?

(73,332 posts)Hatred blinds one.
She clearly didn't even see it.
But, you'll see what you want to see.
