"She Instigates Resentment": Caitlin Clark Attracted The Animosity With Her Taunts Prior To WNBA Altercation During Feve

A scuffle in the second half—sparked by a Marina Mabrey shove that sent Clark to the floor—triggered a wider conversation in the basketball world, including on ESPN’s First Take. The next morning, Stephen A. Smith, alongside Monica McNutt and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, dove into the incident and brought up a familiar name: Angel Reese.

Clark was poked in the eye earlier in the quarter and later pushed during the confrontation that led to multiple technical fouls and three ejections. Smith pointed out that some players may still harbor resentment toward Caitlin Clark—something that could stem from past rivalries and on-court antics.

“Caitlin Clark being that golden goose per se, that rising tide, that’s lifting all boats—I stand by my past proclamations that there’s resentment towards her,” Smith said.

He added, “But I want to take it a step further. There’s also resentment towards her because she instigates resentment towards her sometimes. … The whole Angel Reese thing with her started because when Caitlin was giving it to everybody else, she was the one waving in their face.”

Smith was referring to Clark’s infamous “you can’t see me” taunt during the 2023 NCAA Tournament—an action that Reese mirrored after LSU’s championship win over Iowa. While many assumed Clark was targeting Hailey Van Lith at the time, the Louisville star later clarified that Clark wasn’t even addressing her, but rather one of Iowa’s assistant coaches.

Jealousy is hard to watch and the wnba refs are a joke

They are going to screw around and hurt her permanently and then the wnba will go back to nothing, they will be back on the 🚌 bus

I'm am not just talking about last night latest incident.

I slso want to stress that SOME African American WNBA players and fans resent that the white girl is being held up as a superstar. Clark IS an amazng talent and the resentment is unwarranted and unfair.

It's a little bit like Jackie Robinson in reverse: some players are trying to drive her out of the league with blantant intimidation.

They are a threat to their paychecks but it isn't anything unusual.

I watch a lot of Mercury games and you see teams hate each other and sometimes have to be separeted even after the game is over and these are games that don't have anything to do with Caitlin Clark.

The WNBA is more focused on social justice issues much more than other sports leagues and have a lot of LGBT players. I think the resentment is toward a lot of fans who are only interested in the sport when Caitlin Clark is playing and I think it is something the fans are not used to as WNBA games can be very physical & confrontational.

Caitlin Clark will be a great player in the league and maybe even win multiple championships & gold medals but there are already a ton of super talented players that already existed in the game and they had to survive physical match-ups like Clark.

To whit:

The whole Angel Reese thing with her started because when Caitlin was giving it to everybody else, she was the one waving in their face.

The author should have actually watched the games.
Clark did the "you can't see me" thing 6" from her own face, not in the face of others. It was typically as she was walking away.
Reese actually chased her down, and did it in Clark's face. Pretty much the opposite of what the author claims.
I know you have a thing against Clark, but these continued attempts at making her a villain are getting tedious.
