Raptors fined $25,000 for Drake comments on Kevin Durant

The Toronto Raptors have been fined $25,000 for comments rap star Drake made about NBA MVP Kevin Durant at last weekend’s OVO Fest that the league has deemed a violation of anti-tampering rules.

Drake, official global ambassador for the Raptors since last September, asked the concert crowd how they’d react if Durant — set to become a free agent in 2016 and thought to be coveted by the Raptors — were to play for Toronto. The Oklahoma City Thunder all-star was in town for the concert weekend.

A senior NBA executive confirmed an ESPN report that Durant was the target of what the league calls a public recruiting pitch by the rapper.

“My brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us,’’ Drake told screaming fans. “I just want him to see what would happen if he were to come play in Toronto.” The fans responded with a thundering “K-D!” chant.
