Voting rights attorney Marc Elias warns that the Trump Department of Justice is aggressively seeking access to Americans most sensitive voter dataincluding Social Security numbers, party affiliation, voting history, and signaturesby suing more than 20 states. Drawing on decades of experience and current court battles, he breaks down how voter files work, how they can be weaponized, and why DOJ control of this data could fundamentally reshape elections, from voter challenges to targeted suppression laws and post-election challenges. - 01/03/2026.

But he overlooks another reason, in case the felon loses the next election: hit lists.
Not far fetched when one considers that we live in a country with a) the highest per capital mass shootings in the world, and b) daily threats made to tens of thousands who just tell the truth, and/or just do their jobs, c) a convicted criminal occupying the White House who d) enough Jan 6 convicts pardoned across 50 states to now do his bidding as vigilante hit squads.

(250,056 posts)I have Liz Cheney's book and the reason that only 10 House Republicans voted yes on impeachment after experiencing the frightening horror of January 6th was because they feared being primaried (which several were) and, even worse, the fear of retribution. I remember one House member telling her that he feared for his wife and new baby.
She said that if the vote was anonymous she believed the impeachment vote would have been overwhelming, but too many were afraid of retribution - and as it was only 2 of the Republican House members who voted yes on impeachment returned to serve in the next Congress. And one of their excuses was that "he'll be gone soon, anyway."
