Trump makes fatal mistake after Texas upset - Another Day - Brian Tyler

BTC: Are Donald Trump and his party winning? Definitely not. But are they recalibrating? Also, no. This is just another day. {"One Rattle After Another" image of Trump and ballot box on display}

Now that it's February and we're inching ever closer to this year's midterms, it seems that any change in politics as usual can set off alarm bells.

(cut to CNN News Central video)
John Berman: This morning, there are Republicans across the country who are nervous.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Uh-oh. Did some Republicans suddenly realize signing up for Matt Gaetz's weekend age of consent protest was a bad idea? Or is this about something else entirely?

(cut to CNN News Central video)
John Berman: This is all about a special election for a Texas state senate seat around Fort Worth.

Harry Enten: That's exactly right. Texas 9. Texas 9. Because what happened in Texas 9? It didn't just swing to the left. It took a rocket ship to the left. This was a district that Donald Trump won by 17 points in 2024. The Democratic candidate in the special election on Saturday. Hello.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Okay, looks like somebody doesn't mind a little nose candy before the election analysis. Don Jr. watches Harry Enten and thinks I need to find a new dealer. But that's not the only blow here. This was also a huge blow to the GOP.

Democrat Taylor Rehmet defeated his opponent Leigh Wambsganss by flipping the seat in this supremely red district of Texas, SD9. Something that hasn't happened in more than 30 years and every Republican is taking notice. Every single Republican.

(cut to Fox News video at Mar-a-Lago)
Reporter: Mr. President, on Texas, um, a Democrat won a special election in an area that you had won by 17 points. What is your reaction to that?

Trump: I don't know. I didn't hear about it. Somebody ran where?

Reporter: In Texas, a special election for legislative the ninth state senate seat.

Trump: I'm not involved in that. That's a local Texas race.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Yeah, he's not involved in that. I mean, except for the time that he uh posted about it and that other time that he posted about it. Oh, and that third time that he posted about it telling everyone to go out and vote for Wambsganss {series of Truth Social posts displayed}. So, you know, there's not involved and then there's Donald Trump's not involved.

But I guess the president is just going to take this one on the chin because he knows that if you don't respect the sanctity of our electoral process, you could end up undermining our entire voting system or even worse, jeopardizing Americans faith in our democratic institutions.

(cut to Dan Bongino Show video)
Trump: The Republicans should say, "We want to take over. We should take over the voting the voting in at least many 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting.”

(cut to studio)
BTC: Or he might go another way. Yes. This morning, Donald Trump went on Dan Bongino's show to suggest that his party pull off this tiny pretty insignificant move of shredding one of our founding documents. The sitting president of the United States thinks his party and his party alone should control our elections even though the Constitution says that each state gets to set its own rules for running elections. I mean, where on earth would Donald Trump get the idea that members of his party would ever go for this?

(cut to Meet the Press video)
Kristen Welker: This was asked and answered and litigated and relitigated. The page has been turned. He's still talking about an election that he lost allegations which have been deemed claimed.

Mike Johnson: The president is keeping the focus on election integrity. It must be in the forefront of everyone's minds because if you don't have a free and fair election, you cannot maintain a constitutional republic. He's bothered by what happened in 2020 and we all know there was a lot of irregularity and problem in that and we're not going to relitigate it. That's not the point.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Exactly. No one's relitigating. Mike Johnson's even doing so much not relitigating that he's replaced the app on his phone that lets his son monitor his porn intake and swapped it out for an app that alerts his son anytime he starts to relitigate the 2020 election results. But don't worry, he still calls his son anytime he's on the verge of jerking off.

The point is Mike Johnson's masturbation is 100% his son's business. No, sorry, that's not what I meant to say. The point is all that relitigating is over and done with.

(cut to Dan Bongino Show video)
Trump: We have states that are so crooked and they're counting votes. We have states that I won that show I didn't win. Now, you're going to see something in Georgia where they were able to get with a court order the ballots. You're going to see some interesting things come out. But, you know, like the 2020 election, I won that election by so much. Everybody does it.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Got to say, sometimes it really feels like we're living in the upside down. It has been over five years and in that time there has been zero evidence of fraud in the 2020 election. Yet Republicans continue to hammer away at putting safeguards on our electoral process to protect our election integrity. Yet there has been an entire island worth of evidence that countless people in Trump's orbit lied about the relationship with a billionaire pedophile. And to that they say,

(cut to Meet the Press video)
Kristen Welker: "Do you have any outstanding questions given that about the relationship between President Trump and Jeffrey Epstein?"

Mike Johnson: I do not.

(cut to Fox News video)
Todd Blanche: As you know, it is not a crime to party with Mr. Epstein.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Damn straight. The only crime in an Epstein party is leaving without saying goodbye. Oh, and also trafficking, abusing, and raping underage girls. I mean, my god, if we really wanted Republican accountability, we should have put the Epstein files in a Fulton County ballot box.

By the way, I know that the revolving door between the government and the media is a long-standing tradition, but Dan Bongino really got back on the air pretty quick after serving that grueling less than one-year stint in office. And what a get for his first show back. I mean, what a thrill to be able to interview, or rather to sit and be lectured by the President of the United States.

(cut to Dan Bongino Show video)
Trump: They're able to steal more than $19 billion and we're we're right on their ass.

Bongino: Yeah, that was one of the first cases when I got an…

Trump: These are people that don't work.

Bongino: Yeah.

Trump: Yeah, Dan. These are people that don't work. We got to get them out. Most of them. And it's most of them. 92% 92% don't work.

(cut to studio)
BTC: It is adorable how Dan Bongino thinks Donald Trump actually gives a fuck about what he has to say. Trump just wants an audience. He will plow through any word Dan Bongino tries to get in edge-wise. He would happily chat with a tub of creatine with a receding hairline if that thing knew how to operate a mic. Wait, which one is Dan Bongino?

The reality is over the last few days, Donald Trump has taken some pretty big hits. His party just lost a state senate election in Texas to a Democrat, a district that Trump carried by 17 points in 2024. His name and pretty much all of his friends names appeared in the latest release of the Epstein Files. And last night he endured a Grammys telecast where countless performers pitched the idea of giving Trump's policies their own in memoriam.

(cut to Grammy Awards video)
Billie Eilish: No one is illegal on stolen land.

Olivia Dean: I guess I want to say I'm up here as a granddaughter of an immigrant. I wouldn't be here. Um yeah, I'm a product of bravery and I think those people deserve to be celebrated.

Gloria Estefan: It's inhumane. I don't recognize my country at this moment right now.

Bad Bunny: I'm going to say ICE out.

(cut to studio)
BTC: And to top off our nation's love fest with the president, his wife's documentary, which just dropped this weekend, received an initial score of 7% on Rotten Tomatoes, a score worse than the movie “Cats.” By the way, a few actual cats were given the opportunity to watch the Melania doc, but they all threw themselves off the roof and chose not to land on their feet.

So, one might assume that a normal person would, I don't know, take a hint, notice the temperature in the room, and recalibrate even just a smidge. But a normal person does not occupy the Oval Office because Donald Trump is simply doubling down. We are currently witnessing the ramblings of a desperate lame duck president.

And if he didn't have a party so willing to enact whatever undemocratic tasks he hands them and demands of them so that he can stay in power and they can too, it might even be comical. But it is hard to see humor in this guy's dictatorial intentions. He is talking openly about corrupting the cornerstone of our democracy because for some reason Donald Trump believes that if he simply announces his crimes, that makes it okay and totally legal.

In 2019, he said that he had a very good telephone call with Zelensky where he tried to withhold foreign aid from Ukraine unless Zelensky dug up dirt on Joe Biden. In 2020, he said that on his call with Georgia's Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, that Raffensperger told him he did nothing wrong, which not only didn't happen, but the entire call was Trump's effort to overturn an election that he lost. And now he and his party are openly setting the stage to rig the midterms in their favor any way they can.

They don't care about election integrity. They don't care about democracy. They are a party willing to abandon any sense of morality in their quest to sustain power. But don't just take my word for it.

(cut to Dan Bongino Show video)
Trump: Everybody does it.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Exactly.
