Justice Department pulls nightmare move - Another Day - Brian Tyler Cohen

BTC: Virginia's Democratic state senator, who spearheaded the state's redistricting effort, has her office raided by the FBI. No word yet on whether Kash also raided her liquor cabinet. This is just another day.

Fun fact, did you know Virginia isn't just for lovers anymore? It's also for FBI raids.

[cut to video from MS NOW]
Ana Cabrera: The FBI is searching the office of a Democrat in the Virginia State Senate, Louise Lucas.

[cut to studio]
BTC: Oh, come on. Do we really have to mention which political party she belongs to? There is absolutely no reason to believe this is part of some political retribution campaign directed by Donald Trump's White House.

[cut to video from MS NOW]
Ana Cabrera: She is a party leader who was instrumental in the Virginia redistricting effort.

[cut to studio]
BTC: Okay, maybe there is one reason to believe that this is part of Donald Trump's political retribution campaign, but it's not fair to jump to conclusions simply because of one example. That'd be like people calling a congresswoman unprofessional simply because she hits one vape and strokes one penis at one Broadway musical. Sorry, but without more concrete evidence, this still feels like a pretty legitimate piece of impartial justice to me.

Guest: When Lindsay Halligan, one of Trump's very closest allies and a former lawyer of his, had been running the US attorney's office in the Eastern District of Virginia she had been pressuring and pushing prosecutors to bring charges against Lucas, believing that that would be important, a high priority case. I'm told that Halligan believed it would be good for the White House to be able before the midterms to accuse a prominent state Democrat in Virginia with bribery.

[cut to studio]
BTC: Bribery. Now, we're getting somewhere and I got to say, I find it rich that bribery is the apparent red line for an administration that traffics in it on a daily basis. I mean, come on.

You've got CBS's parent company, Paramount, paying 16 million bucks to settle a lawsuit so that Donald Trump can step in and approve their multi-billion dollar merger with Sky Dance. Great bribe.

A law firm promising $40 million in free legal work so Trump leaves you alone. Fantastic bribe.

And a country handing you a free plane in the hopes of influencing your foreign policy. Major bribe vibes.

Look, I don't want to say that our current FBI director is drunk on power, [inset video of Kash Patel celebrating with USA hockey team] but it sure feels like another case of someone doing Donald Trump's bidding.

Now, the raid of Lucas's office this morning took everyone by surprise, which is why there weren't any news networks on the scene to cover what was happening. The What's that? Oh, my mistake. There was one network that somehow got a hot tip.

[cut to video from Fox News]
Harris Faulkner: A very influential Democrat from Virginia, State Senator Louise Lucas, is at the center of a major FBI corruption investigation right now. In fact, agents are executing search warrants across the Commonwealth, including her office. Alex Hogan is in Portsmouth, Virginia--Alex.

[cut to studio]
BTC: Wow. Talk about luck. I mean, to be that fortunate, you'd have to find a four-leaf clover while holding a rabbit's foot in one hand, the long part of the wishbone in the other, all while your news network spent years kissing the FBI director's ass.

[cut to video from Fox News]
Sean Hannity: I got to introduce you to President Trump.

Kash Patel: That's right. I absolutely do.

Hannity: In his first term.

[cut to video from Fox News]
John Roberts: Let's bring in FBI Director Kash Patel. Director Patel, great to have you back on the show.

[cut to video from The Will Cain Show]
Will Cain: On the road in North Carolina is Kash Patel. What's up, Kash?

[cut to video from Fox News]
Lara Trump: Kash, I'm excited to sit down with you finally.

Kash Patel: Yeah. Thanks so much for making time.

Lara Trump: Yeah. No, this is there's so much going on and there's so much that you're involved with.

[cut to studio]
BTC: No wonder Kash hits the sauce so hard. He needs to throw a couple back just to absorb all that love.

Now, information about this raid is still trickling in. What we currently know is that besides her office, federal agents also searched a neighboring cannabis dispensary that Lucas co-owns called the Cannabis Outlet. So clearly, Senator Lucas spent a bit more time on policy than she did on naming her store. Come on, Senator--was local weed place already taken?

The FBI also stated that agents were executing a court authorized federal search warrant in Portsmouth as part of an ongoing investigation, but declined to provide additional details. Well, that's where the fourth estate comes in because when the FBI doesn't want to give additional details, local news reporters hunt them down on their own.

[cut to video]
Reporter: Senator, Senator, is there anything you could say?

So, as you probably could tell, she turned her back to me, didn't get out of the car, didn't say anything. We have two employees of the Lucas Lodge here in this car. Uh, gentlemen, can you come here and talk with me live? They are here in the car. They uh have been refusing to make any comment, but they are saying that they have no comment and they don't know what's going on.

[cut to studio]
BTC: Up next, I'll knock on each one of these locked port-a-potties to find out what's really going on--back to you.

The reality is there's still a lot we don't know about what's happening in Virginia, but that's not to say there isn't a lesson to be learned from today's FBI raid and the people who should be learning this lesson, frankly, are Democrats

Years ago, after that globally televised Day of Peace/Tourist visit/nothing to see here at our nation's capital, certain people at the Justice Department felt that the worst thing Biden's DOJ could do would be to give off the optics of politicization. So, in their efforts to appear impartial, they took their sweet time holding those zip tie wielding hippies and their free-spirited leader accountable for their actions.

In fact, these same certain people wanted to appear so unbiased they didn't even appoint Jack Smith to the case until almost 2 years after that capital love fest. Now, no one really knows who exactly these certain people are [inset image of Merrick Garland], but sitting here today, it doesn't really feel like that whole optics play paid off.

[cut to video from MSNBC]
Correspondent: Newly sworn in, President Trump, issued roughly 1,500 pardons on his first day in office and commuted the sentences of 14 of his supporters in connection with the January 6th insurrection.

[cut to video]
Trump: Ended Joe Biden's weaponization of our government and removed his handpicked radical left Marxist prosecutors from the Department of Justice like deranged Jack ‘Sick’ Smith. He's a sick son of a bitch. They gave me the worst of the worst and here I am. How did that happen?

[cut to studio]
BTC: I think we're all asking ourselves the same question. By dragging their feet on holding criminals to account, a clear message was sent to Donald Trump and that message was, I can get away with whatever the fuck I want. And he sure as hell got that memo because that's exactly what's going on now. Not only is this White House a 24-hour corruption factory, but when it comes to the idea of bad optics because of an appearance of politicization, Donald Trump and the Republicans don't seem too concerned.

[cut to video from Fox News]
Bill Hemmer: The Justice Department has now subpoenaed the former FBI director, James Comey.

[cut to video from 60 Minutes]
Scott Pelley: In recent weeks, President Trump has signed orders against several law firms, orders with the power to destroy them.

[cut to video from The Takeout]
Weijia Jiang: The Justice Department has subpoenaed multiple high-ranking Minnesota officials. Among those to receive subpoenas are Governor Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

[cut to video from CNN]
Correspondent: What about Comey, Adam Shifty Schiff, Letitia. They're all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done. [reading Trump Truth Social post]

[cut to video from Morning Joe]
Mika Brzezinski: The Republican chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio, is asking the Justice Department to take legal action against former CIA Director John Brennan.

[cut to studio]
BTC: Wow. Jim Jordan leading the charge. Pretty wild considering back in 2023 there was this House subcommittee that was created called the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the federal government and the person who created it was also named Jim Jordan. Guess it's not just sexual abuse that he can turn a blind eye to. It's also his own blatant hypocrisy. What a talent.

The truth is it is pretty hard to see this raid on a Democratic state senator as anything other than being politically motivated and that's because this administration has lost all credibility. When you accuse Democratic members of Congress of sedition for their audacious move of saying US service members can refuse illegal orders, when you target a prosecutor with bank fraud simply because she brought a civil case against you, and when you drop the hammer down on people for posting stupid pictures of seashells and treat them as though they are cold-blooded killers, it's a bit of a tell that you're grasping at straws.

Donald Trump is doing exactly what we all knew he would do if he was elected to a second term. He is leading the charge on a weaponized government and weaponized justice. And I, for one, can't think of a way to vocalize how terrible that is for our nation.

[inset video]
Trump: He's a sick son of a bitch.

BTC: Actually, I think that fits.
