"CBS' firing of Stephen Colbert has seen the Late Show time slot nosedive in ratings and it's taking the network with it. Since CBS handed Byron Allen the 11:35 p.m. slot formerly occupied by Colbert's The Late Show with Allen Media footing all production costs under a "time buy" arrangement Nielsen data reviewed by Status show nearly two-thirds of the audience Colbert was drawing toward the end of his run has fled.

(25,960 posts)They don't care if they lose money on CBS. They bought the brand. Just like a hedge fund, they will break it down, make it cheap, and sell it back to us.
The Ellisons want a trusted news name to carry their propaganda. They did not buy a television network. They bought political power.

(30,007 posts)Byron Allen ran a series that aired after one of the network late night shows ran. Late-night television was pretty desolate on cable after midnight, Im tellin ya. Allens show featured an endless parade of stand-up comedians - an eclectic mix, in retrospect. It was cold and detached, no time to form a solid opinion on a performer. Some were good, some may have gone on to greater fame for all I know. Some were hacks by just about anybodys standards, and some were so bad that it sent me clicking round the dial in search of something - anything - better than that. Byron Allen no longer has a captive audience due to limited choices.

(260,789 posts)I was lucky if there was an old movie on or the late late news from one of the NYC channels with only a photo of the stars on the screen accompanied by a voice. One night I caught a "Bomba, The Jungle Boy" movie since that's all that was on. And the next day I heard my co-workers talking about it since they worked the same hours I did.

(15,761 posts)and have been waiting to learn the impact from everyone who was enraged. They asked me why I was ending the subscription and I said it was due to the Colbert cancellation and the enormous work they were doing on behalf of the fascists.
Glad tidings!

(260,789 posts)I sure miss Colbert as well, there's also nothing for me on CBS. Even their local news (Albany, NY) is biased now. And I started posting Colbert's monologue and opening here in 2017, I think, for those DUers who don't stay up as late as I do.
