Let's talk about the revolt over the ACA in the House.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about the revolt over the ACA in the House.

Yesterday, we talked about the abject chaos caused by Trump and Johnson's refusal to extend the ACA credits. We
mentioned how some Republicans were considering using a discharge petition to force a vote on the issue over the
wishes of party leadership. Well, that happened. Four vulnerable Republicans signed on to the discharge petition, which puts it at the needed 218 signatures. This should force a vote on a Democratic plan that would extend the ACA subsidies for three years. Currently, the subsidies are set to expire at the end of the month. Tens of millions will see their health care costs rise if that happens.

The four vulnerable Republicans who gave a single finger salute to the leadership of their own party on behalf
of their voters was Representatives Mike Lawler of New York, and then Rob Bresnahan, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Ryan
Mackenzie, all of Pennsylvania.

I've got a couple of questions about why I call them vulnerable instead of centrists like most of the media. The
simple answer is because they aren't centrists. They're pretty right-wing. They're just more at risk of losing
their seats.

Okay. So, what happens from here? Well, since it was done by discharge petition, it'll probably have to hold 7 days
before it comes up for a vote. That puts it in the middle of the vacation, which means a vote probably won't come up
until after the subsidies have expired. That's right. It looks like Speaker Johnson will send Congress on vacation
while the deadline passes and healthcare becomes unaffordable for millions of working class Americans.

Republicans did manage to pass their patchwork healthcare concepts of a plan that the Congressional Budget
Office said would cause 100,000 Americans to lose their health care every year for the next 10 years. The GOP is destroying the health care of millions all so they don't have to admit the one Big Beautiful Bill was a failure.

After losing control of House Republicans again through a discharge petition, Speaker Johnson said, quote,
"I have not lost control of the House. We have the smallest majority in US history. These are not normal times."

Nothing says I am totally in control like having to deny that you've lost control. Republicans are disobeying Johnson and Trump with more and more frequency on high-profile issues. From Epstein to war powers to healthcare, Johnson and Trump's directives are being ignored. While not all of the votes actually go against Trump, the fact that they're coming up for votes when Republicans are supposed to be setting the legislative agenda is quack worthy in and of itself. While Trump sleepwalks us into a potential war down south and Congress just sleeps, the US is losing.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
