Related: About this forumTrump dealt new bomb in Epstein files - Another Day - Brian Tyler Cohen
BTC: The Trump administration releases just some of the Epstein files, and that's all the law requires, just so long as you tried. This is just another day.
Are you guys as excited as I am? Kind of feels like Christmas morning, right? Everybody waking up early, racing around the house in their pajamas, desperate to see what Santa brought them. And I'm the Jewish kid next door, focused on something completely different.
(cut to video)
TODAY show host Craig Melvin: It is deadline day for the Justice Department to release its files on Jeffrey Epstein.
(cut to studio)
BTC: It is finally here. This is really exciting. It's like when Apple launches a new iPhone that can take amazing photos, except this is being done by people who desperately want to keep every photo secret. But other than that, exactly the same.
(cut to video)
Fox & Friends host Lawrence Jones: Today marks the deadline for the DOJ to make the Epstein files public after the president signed a law requiring those to be released. So, in these files, are we going to learn any new information about uh Epstein and people that may have been associated with him?
(cut to studio)
BTC: Well, um if I may, I think it'll mostly be the raping. I doubt this document dump is going to illuminate some other part of Jeffrey Epstein's personality that we never knew about. Hey, did you hear they finally released the Epstein files? Turns out the guy was an amazing ice carver. But let's hear what Trump's Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has to say.
(cut to video)
Todd Blanche: So, yes. So, today is the is the 30 days where and I expect that that we're going to release several hundred thousand documents today and and those documents will come in in all different forms, photographs and other materials associated with with all of the investigations into into Mr. Epstein. Um, and and just just so everybody appreciates, President Trump has said for years that he wants full transparency and he wants the Department of Justice to release everything that we can.
(cut to studio)
BTC: And I think everyone has felt that desire by the president to achieve full transparency. I mean, that's why he's been so complimentary toward his fellow Republicans in Congress who have also called for full transparency on the Epstein files.
(cut to video)
Trump: I've watched stupid people like Marjorie Traitor Greene or some people call her Taylor Greene, some people call her Taylor Brown because green sometimes turns to brown.
(cut to studio)
BTC: You know, some say the greatest insults deserve to be explained. But back to Todd Blanche, the highly seasoned lawyer who was on TV to talk about Trump's DOJ following every letter of the law.
(cut to video)
Todd Blanche: And so I expect that we're going to release more documents um over the next couple of weeks. So today, several hundred thousand and then over the next couple weeks I expect several hundred thousand more.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Huh, that's odd. I guess the law says they only need to release part of the files today.
(cut to video)
Rep. Suhas Subramanyam: The law says they needed to release everything by today. Not starting today. Not part of it today. All of it by today.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Well, then this seems pretty fucked up. And also the least surprising news that I've heard since seeing Lauren Boebert made the cover of Handjobs at Musicals Monthly. There was not a ton of competition.
Well, at least some of the files were released today and I have to say the reaction has been stunning.
(cut to video)
Jake Tapper: This is this is one of the the documents that that the Justice Department released. It's 100 pages, right? And this is what it looks like. I don't know if you can see it's all black.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Sorry, did I say reaction? I meant redaction. Good god. I have not seen that many blacked out pages since Kenneth from 30 Rock took his employees out for tequila shots. And just a quick bit of advice for Jake Tapper, maybe you give your phone a quick cloth wipe before broadcasting to the world how uncomfortably greasy your screen is. That phone is so greasy it looks like it's trying to sell me a used Honda.
Okay, I'll tell you who's going to be really pissed about all of this. Dan Bongino, second in command at the FBI and first in command at the Bureau of Where the Hell are the Epstein files?
(cut to video)
Unidentified announcer: Director Dan Bongino announced he is stepping down next month.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Well, to quote a close acquaintance of Mr. Bongino.
(cut to video)
Dan Bongino: Oh boy, this thing is just getting nastier by the second.
(cut to studio)
BTC: I couldn't agree more. Here's how nasty things got. Our president, who has never met a journalist he didn't want to disparage publicly, decided today he just wasn't in the mood.
(cut to video)
Trump: And I'd prefer not talking and asking questions only for the reason that this is such a big announcement meaning what these people have said and what the other four companies are going to say which is exactly the same thing that I really don't want to uh soil it up by asking questions even questions that are very fair questions that I'd love to answer.
(cut to studio)
BTC: How noble. I remember how much he loved answering questions the last time Epstein was in the news.
(cut to video)
Trump: Could I just interrupt one second? Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy's been talked about for years. You're asking we have Texas, we have this, we have all of the things. And are people still talking about this guy, this creep? That is unbelievable.
(cut to studio)
BTC: I mean, if that's not the full transparency Todd Blanche was referring to, I don't know what is. And speaking of Blanche, it's worth recalling what he said this morning.
(cut to video)
Unidentified reporter: But again, important to note, the deputy attorney general this morning, Todd Blanche, said this is actually not the whole production. He said, "This will be hundreds of thousands of pages, and we will continue to produce more over the coming weeks." Technically, that's not what the law says. The law says all the documents today, but DOJ apparently has just not been able to do that.
(cut to studio)
BTC: That's right. They just have not been able to do that. And you know, the Trump administration, as much as they would like to do things quickly, often it's just not possible.
I mean, Trump wanted to circumvent the governors of California, Illinois, and Oregon to send in the National Guard to those states, but those things take time.
He wanted to deport people to El Salvador under the cover of night. But to do that, he would need approval from the courts, and that takes time.
Trump wanted desperately to dismantle the USAID program, but that would take congressional approval, which takes time. Same thing goes for the Department of Education and again, the time factor.
Or remember that jumbo jet from Qatar Trump wanted? Well, to accept it, he'd need approval from Congress or risk being in violation of the Constitution's Emoluments clause. So, who knows if that's ever going to happen.
Or how about the new multimillion-dollar ballroom Trump wanted to build at the White House? He hasn't even been able to start that yet because legally, you need those plans to be approved by the National Trust for Historic Preservation before you just start tearing apart the East Wing and unfortunately, that takes time.
Or how about physically changing the names of our nation's most respected cultural institutions? I know Trump wants to do it, but who knows when that'll actually happen.
(cut to video)
Aimee Cho: Those workers have presumably already begun to change the lettering on the side of the building to reflect that new name, the Trump Kennedy Center.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Wow. I guess they can move fast when they want. How about that?
All this administration had to do to not look like their top priority is protecting pedophiles was follow the law and release all the files like they were legally required to do. But they couldn't do it. They are more than happy to sprint around judges, defy Congress, ignore the courts. But when it comes to bringing closure to rape victims, that's simply a bridge too far. So to quote my soon-to-be unemployed friend Dan
(cut to video)
Dan Bongino, "Oh boy, this thing is just getting nastier by the second."
(cut to studio)
BTC: Exactly.
