We're discussing holding some free historical movie showings.

Films with a lot of anti-fascist weight. Like Spielberg's war movies, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, other stuff. Also The Pianist which goes really hardcore, and adjacent topics like that Tarantino one that's more inspiring than educational.

Probably mix in some high-brow material just to sneak in even deeper messages about the nature of liberty. Maybe Judgment at Nuremberg, that sort of thing. Prompt folks to understand what's happening in front of them.

It's still just a discussion, but I like the thought process.

1. Where would you show these films? It would be great if there were a cinema chain that could get behind

this effort- even if it is just a couple of showings per week. (From your post, I can't tell if this is you working on this or some group you were giving a nod to--can you expand? )

I mostly bring it up to hear ideas, or maybe talk to people thinking along similar lines.

3. Well, I think it would be a great idea, but especially if we could get a younger group to embrace & push it...

(Not that the youngest are the only ones that need to see these films, mind you, but if it is something motivated, activist young people can get behind, that would seem a good way to get a "big" start that might then spread nationwide). I think of the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas kids that got the national movement on gun control started... They were extremely effective on social media (or so I'm told--as that is not my thing, but I did attend some of their rallies in Denver). A group like this could be very effective.

At some point a person just has to do what their spirit says. An outdoor anti-fascist film festival sounds right to me, but who knows.

Matter of fact, I would really prefer that somebody else did it. Ours would just end up being our friends and extended family showing up for beer.

Burt Lancaster, Spencer Tracy, Marlene Dietrich -- they were all great. It's true story about the last American judge to oversee the trials of former Nazi officials who all claimed "we didn't know" about the gas chambers. GET THIS MOVIE and see it if you haven't already!
