“The level of incompetence is beyond belief,” U.S. Rep. Maxine Dexter, D-Oregon, said in a video to constituents on Tuesday .

“We had our highest-ranking officials on our national security team having open dialogue on a commercial application that’s not secure about war plans, with the inclusion of an undisclosed number. Nobody cared to suggest that maybe a better channel should be used or to ask, ‘Who’s this number?’ The incompetence is not a joke. It put our men and women in uniform’s lives at risk, it put our national security at absolute risk. We are lucky no one died, but they will if we don’t take action.”Senator Jeff Merkley co-wrote a letter to President Trump, demanding answers to the situation. "This is an astonishingly cavalier approach to national security," the letter read, in part. U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Oregon, called the situation "incompetent, outrageous, and dangerous," adding that the incident exposes Trump cabinet members as being "picked solely for their loyalty to Donald Trump," and are not fit for office.
