He said "defensive" when talking Patriot missile systems. They are.

In this, he has a lot of precedent. For years we supported "defense" but in war, often the only way to defend is to be on the offensive.

Otherwise it's like trying to get a bully to stop just by blocking punches and hoping not too many get through. Your self-limited range of options is "draw" through "lose."

It would be like pushing Germany back to its 1938 borders but not ever bombing Germany or setting foot over the borders. It attacks, you defend, and you just slowly lose men, equipment, and until they get tired of making you bleed or tired of rebuilding in order to attack.
