With median individual income being around $54,000/year, it would be on far less than half of workers.
And if they are able to eliminate the cap and feel like they can raise income taxes to meet other needs, fine, do it. But any increase in the cap should be purely for Social Security.

My H worked for the State of NY. He paid into SS and receives a pension. Ditto for my mother who was a teacher
