This article talking about the Herald's findings shows a best case scenario Gore might have won by a full state recount using the most lenient standard. Hardly winning by 880,000 votes. Given the total votes in Florida were 5,963,070 votes, your 880,000 number would have been nearly 15% of the total vote. I think you're misremembering things.
