In reply to the discussion: Democratic leaders will support resolution honoring Charlie Kirk [View all]QueerDuck
(106 posts)Me: "Darn... I got a little paper cut opening this envelope. Oh well... it'll heal by tomorrow."
Alarmist: "Sure, it's just a paper cut today, but when you slice your finger with a cleaver, is that what you'll be saying?" or "When it gets infected and you end up on life support, is that what you'll be saying?"
Me: "I'm so proud of my son who just learned to ride a bike."
Alarmist: "Sure, but when he's injured in a motorcycle accident, will you still be proud?"
See? Anything can be taken to ridiculous extremes, and doing so doesn't make the argument any stronger. Instead it reveals the weakness of the argument or objection.
Look, I understand that you're not happy about it. But the level of angst and hatred directed toward Democrats is over the top. This will all blow over in a few days. Reasonable people will have completely forgotten about it. We can't afford the luxury of obsessing over the little things and allowing ourselves to fall into GOP no-win "traps" that create division and distrust. The GOP is creating a situation wherein those who have a predisposition to dislike Democratic leadership are being handed a cudgel with which to continue their attacks.
It accomplishes nothing and it's all so pointless. The sky is not falling and brownshirts are not kicking down my door.
