...bear spray has the same active ingredient as pepper spray.
But, pepper spray intended for defense has around 10% capsaicin.
Bear spray is only around 2%, but the aerosol mechanism creates a wider & longer pattern, making it harder for an animal to evade. One wouldn't want to close enough to a bear to use human intended spray.
Pepper spray is, therefore, actually stronger that bear spray, but less effective on bears.
But, it's way more effective on humans.

Thst has occasionally happened to me as a white person, too. I always counter them in sone way.

Hmmm... not sure when I learned that. Occasionally I still do but I usually catch myself and stop.
