Especially those who supposedly know better and can recognize an action that is wrong and hurtful, but walk around so fearful of not being able to control their surroundings they let the worst within them take over, and become a danger to themselves, the ones they supposedly care about, and society at large.
What's worse, those people also cannot seem to allow themselves to take responsibility when they make decisions and do things that are hurtful or harmful.
Mr. Pastor failed his test to his purported God. He turned away and listened to his inner demons.

From what I've read in early Christian writings, Salvation requires he take responsibility for his deeds, rather than put out a casual "oh, yeah. I got mad and sinned by getting angry and forgetting my training - oh, and yeah I'm sorry she got in front of my bullets - and I promise to accept Christ's forgiveness..." to the universe.
Pastor Ross failed his test. And I suspect he's been failing for a long, long time.

It wasn't until the gangland style selling of indulgences that people were allowed to be theiving, murderous assholes and still pretend to themselves and everyone else they were going to go to Heaven.
