It's probably a mixed bag, and depends city by city, town by town just how good, so-so, or bad each department's police culture is.
Too much racism, and sexism for sure since the start! Of course, there shouldn't be any of that! Add at tmes anti certain ethnic groups, too. Waaaay back like the then new l anti-Irish sentiments.

I kmow there are some good police out there, but how many get affected by bad ones on their force. Do they fear for themselves, their families if they speak out agsinst the bad ones in their mists.

Having been involved in the past in demonstrations I'm leery, especially police on horses! Never had a problem myself, but I witnessed 2 police cornering a guy in a wide ground floor building walkway as my sis, and I were going to an anti-Iraq War demo. It probably was the one with police on horses we steered clear of!
