you'd expect the government to actually obey the law as written and engrossed--both federal, state, and local.

Otherwise, "We're a nation of laws" becomes equivalent to "We're a nation of lies." Granted, it's just a simple change, having that offglide go forward instead of backwards, but it's a bad look.
