Key things to watch for in Pennsylvania, Maine special elections [View all]

Voters in pockets of Pennsylvania and Maine will head to the polls on Tuesday to weigh in on a handful of state House special elections that could offer clues on how Democrats will fare in the 2026 midterms.

Allegheny and Lehigh counties in Pennsylvania will hold two special elections, while voters in a Maine district that covers part of Lewiston also will cast their ballots.

Democrats hold narrow majorities in both state Houses, meaning Republican wins could diminish Democratic control in a key election year — or even divide Pennsylvania’s lower chamber.
