I am white, but I listen to Black women who've been saying that they are fed up with Democratic operatives who ignore the sacrifices and hard work Black organizers - especially Black women - have made for the Democratic Party.
This frustration on the part of Black Democrats boiled over after so many white voters who call themselves progressives failed to support the Democratic candidate for president in 2024.
Black voters have supported white Democratic politicians for decades - usually knowing that not much was going to change for the Black communities. They didn't sit on their hands and whine that so and so isn't pure enough. They worked like hell to get the white moderate Democrats elected instead of the racist right wing Republicans. Because those are usually the only two choices.
I imagine that progressive campaign advisors figured that this safe blue district could be captured by a progressive young candidate. And that part is true. A month ago I figured that Nida Allam might win this primary.
But politicians don't win for long if they allow outsiders to crash into and offend communities they don't bother to know or understand. Anybody could have advised Nida Allam that smearing and attempting to silence a Black woman politician whose family has been in this area for hundreds of years would backfire.
It's so stupid I suspect deliberate sabotage by the same billionaires who brought us Trump.
