...for the identities "cared about." It's unintended harm, but great harm.

It's not what you don't see in people (superficial, stereotypical identity markers) that matters so much as what you do see. I admit, I tend to say we should be identity blind, deaf, and mute, but it's probably more important to be "virtue" seeing, hearing, and speaking.

If you set your senses on identity, it's all you will see. It's all you will think others see. It's a trap. So-called identity and intersectionality have a tantalizing appeal they don't merit. Identity-consciousness feels like consciousness. Intersectionality has an intellectual appeal that derives from our sense of respect for set theory and Venn diagrams. They feel intellectual, and they are, but they're not useful.
