Other possibilites are certainly within the range of plausibility as well given his age and recent health signs.
Skin cancer
Other cancer
Gout meds
Some anti-psychotics
Opiods
Lasix (for the cankles)
Radiation burn
Rash as s/e from chemo
other stuff Im probably forgetting at the moment
The thing that says shingles to me is the fact that its localized, in a kind of line. Thats not in any way difinitive or exclusive though.
