Attacking US interests in the region to prove to surrounding countries those US bases are a liability, not an asset.

Blocking ship traffic through the straight.

US military intelligence has let the US down, and Trump is facing embarrassment.

And facing questions he can't answer. Like, What Now?

Questions that he is not mentally equipped to deal with.
A 'bluff & bluster' President with no Plan B.
