I am a lefty (politically) and want us to be on top of the right wing (so I look to the top left of the flag), and we should also have more power than the cross/religion (ie push down on and place a check against the power of religion, which is represented in this case, thematically, by the red cross diagonal line inside the top left quadrant of focus).

Also, the top left is where the 50 stars are on the US flag, so that is another way to remember what part of the Union Jack to focus upon. Then just remember the red diagonal cross line (ie the representaion of religion for me in my mental construction) is pushed down more on the top left when the UJ is correctly flown.
