Shots fired near National Mall; press escorted off North Lawn

The Secret Service on Monday reported an officer-involved shooting near the National Mall that resulted in a response from emergency response teams.

The shooting took place at 15th Street and Independence Avenue adjacent to the Washington Monument.

“One individual was shot by law enforcement; their condition is currently unknown,” Secret Service wrote in a post on X.

“Avoid the area as roads will be closed for several hours. Additional updates to come as information is confirmed,” they added.
