SUPREME COURT:

Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. Prepare for maximum gerrymandering. The Republican justices just abolished 40 years worth of law protecting against rigged maps.

Supreme Court assailed by experts for grotesque ruling that just gutted civil rights. Kagan wrote, “I dissent because the Court betrays its duty to faithfully implement the great statute Congress wrote. I dissent because the Court’s decision will set back the foundational right Congress granted of racial equality in electoral opportunity.”

Kagan Ripped Supreme Court for Destroying Right to Racial Equality

With supreme court ruling, Republicans could crack urban areas to dilute Black vote. Republicans are now working on maps to further dilute Black voting districts.

“We Could See the Largest Drop in Black Representation Since the End of Reconstruction.” Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, enacted federally, went after the slippery tricks deployed to destroy the political power of Black folks and other people of color—especially in the South. SCOTUS Helps Louisiana Republicans Obliterate Black Democratic District Ahead of Midterms by fast-tracking ruling.

The Supreme Court Just Made Its Voting Rights Ruling Even Worse. The court has fast-tracked its decision demolishing the VRA, helping Southern states redraw their maps before the midterms.

LOUISIANA:

Louisiana’s Republican Governor Jeff Landry Cancels Votes In Insane Racial Power Grab. Landry, a MAGA favorite who also serves as Trump’s envoy to Greenland, told House Republican candidates of his plan to suspend primary elections.

Louisiana Governor Tossed Thousands of Votes In Order to Help Trump. Louisiana’s secretary of state had already received tens of thousands of absentee ballots for the state’s primary elections, but now won’t count them because of Republican Governor Jeff Landry’s desperate move to please Donald Trump.

MAGA Louisiana Gov. sent a message with corrupt order to cancel elections: expert. Marc Elias called the emergency declaration "corrupt" and argued that it shows Republicans are willing to resort to dirty tricks when they can't win on their popularity or policy platform.

Colluding in Broad Daylight: Trump Praises Louisiana Governor for Suspending Elections. “What is happening in Louisiana right now,” warned Democracy Docket’s Marc Elias, “is both a redistricting power grab and a dry run for authoritarian election subversion this fall.”

Voting rights groups sue to block Louisiana from suspending primary elections. The ACLU filed a suit on behalf of Louisiana voters asking a state court to block Jeff Landry’s suspension of congressional elections.

TENNESSEE AND ALABAMA:

Marsha Blackburn calls for special legislative session to eliminate all Dem House seats in her state. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) called on her state’s legislature to reconvene on Wednesday to vote to eliminate all the House districts in the state held by Democrats.

Alabama rushes to eliminate its only two Democrats in Congress. Republican Governor Kay Ivey called for a special session to pass new congressional and state senate maps.

Alabama GOP moves to throw out votes already cast for May primary without telling voters. Alabama is pushing ahead with a racist redistricting scheme after the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act.
