That reminds me of my childhood in the deep South. A lot of my friends called their grandparents Meemaw and Peepaw, which sounded frankly bizarre to me since I'd grown up calling my grandparents Grandma and Grandpa.
I was teasing my Dad one day and told him that when I had kids I'd raise them to call him Peepaw. He replied, totally deadpan, "Go right ahead. Nothing says I have to answer them."
My old man could be pretty sassy sometimes.
