Now free of the of the constraints of the White House.
I love her natural hair.
Speaking of media attention, Michelle says she was mindful of keeping her hair straight during her White House years so it would not be a "talking point." She elaborates, adding, "I knew there was absolutely no way that the first Black First Lady could show up in braids-or any other protective hairstyle, for that matter."
Since leaving the White House, however, braids have been a go-to protective hairstyle for the attorney and author. She opened up about feeling "more vibrant than ever" in her 60s and feeling a real sense of "freedom" from wearing braids during an interview with People. Braids allow me to get them done, and then thats one less thing that I have to think about. When Im out of the public eye, I am swimming, I am playing tennis, and braids represent that kind of freedom for me, she explained.
