politics that's been happening for the last 20 years - I don't think it's been good for the country and I don't think giving campaign strategists/consultants unlimited budgets has led to better campaigns (probably the opposite since they no longer have to be disciplined and discerning about how they spend money and no longer have to make an effort to get free earned media) - but right now I don't see any chance of putting that genie back in the bottle.
