Shri Thadenar won the primary over several Black candidates after they split up the vote. He is quite wealthy, so was able to far outspend anyone else in ads etc. using his own money. What is unfortunate is that Detroit (80% Black) now has no Black representation in Congress, even though this was the seat held by John Conyers for decades.
