also broadcasts Minnesota Twins games. I get a kick out of listening to the various and sundry versions of our National Anthem before the games.

Sometimes it's a middle school chorus singing it. Sometimes, a high school band plays it. Rarely, a grammar school chorus performs it.

Mostly, its some random guy or woman singing the national anthem as an a cappella solo. . Most of those do a poor job of it, but I like to guess which ones will attempt to leap up a fifth on the "Land of the free" line. The smart singers don't. A few take a stab at it. Almost all come up short. And then, there are those who add their own ornamentation to the tune. They are universally very bad at it.

Frankly, my favorite renditions come from the grammar school choral groups. They try so hard. You have to love that.
