Many of them (like thoughtful legal scholar Jamie Raskin) will not be bullied into the misappropriation of legal terms in order to satisfy sloganeers who haven't the slightest inkling of what those terms actually mean. We will not see Jamie Raskin desperately deleting tweets five years from now, only to finally admit what so many are later forced to admit: "I had no idea what I was talking about". (See also: "I had no idea what I was talking about when I called Joe Biden a rapist." )
Brad Lander was never a member of BDS. There is no organization known as BDS.
Brad Lander washed his hands of DSA immediately after their very public celebration of the October 7 invasion of Israel and the concomitant genocide perpetrated by Hamas. And it's a wise thing too because the current official policy of the DSA is that Israel has no right to exist in any form.
DSA member Mayor Mamdani tries to walk a fine line on this policy, but his message is garbled at best, and New York's first lady waded into the scrum last week to endorse two of the three candidates that the mayor had endorsed. She left the non-DSA, anti-BDS, Jewish liberal Zionist off her list.
As for any shade concerning Brad Lander's age, it does not exist on my part. The reference is simply a gentle reminder to anyone celebrating "a new generation of lawmakers from New York!" that they really should do their homework before speaking out.
