National award-winning teacher charged with sexual abuse in Alabama [View all]

An award-winning Hoover, Alabama, teacher has been arrested on a felony sex charge.

Vincent Joseph Chiaramonte, 41, is charged with first-degree sexual abuse/forcible compulsion. He is a teacher at the Riverchase Career Connection Center (RC3) but has been on leave since the investigation began almost a year ago.

The case was presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in the Bessemer Cutoff which issued the felony warrant on March 29. Authorities said Chiaramonte is accused of non-consensual sexual contact with a woman in her 60s.

Chiaramonte in 2017 received the prestigious Milken Educator Award, hailed by Teacher magazine as the “Oscars of Teaching.” At the time, he was a computer science teacher at Hoover’s Bumpus Middle School and received a $25,000 cash prize.
