Two Democratic lawmakers said on Saturday that they showed up to speak to a group of constituents belonging to a Republican counterpart. Dem Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost sent a message to fellow lawmaker on the other side of the aisle, GOP representative John James.
"Hey, [James]. Your constituents want to know where you’ve been & why you haven’t hosted a townhall," Frost wrote Saturday. "Hundreds of them came out to hear [Sen. Chris Murphy] & I fill your void today." "Heads up, they’re pissed you’re supporting cuts to Medicaid, Social Security, and Veterans benefits," Frost added on X.
Murphy, a Democratic senator, also posted about the event on social media. "Walking into a packed house with [Frost] in Warren, Michigan," Murphy said. "If Republicans won’t hold public meetings and answer questions about their plan to gut Medicaid to pass giant billionaire tax breaks, we will."
Liberal commentator Brian Tyler Cohen cheered the event: "More of this. Show up in every district. Republicans thrive by defining Democrats where Democrats are absent (like, for example, in rightwing media). Turn the tables on them," he said.
