has been based on fringe "theories" that are completely uncoupled from reality. And it was concocted with the assumption that it would harm what would be fictional "urban 'lib' enclaves". But instead, those very areas, just due to population density, offer many other resources that no small town or rural area would have access to, even with those latter areas boasting so much about their "self-sufficiency".
