He was a local hero. His brother, Gap, was a friend of our high-school band director. My sister was in the band, and a trumpet player. She was a huge fan of Chuck's. So was I.

Their senior year, Gap with Chuck's permission put together a field show for them using a medley of Chuck's greatest hits. It was so beautiful and I was so proud of my sis I cried. A lady next to me asked why I was crying. When I told her why she said, "I don't blame you. They were amazing." They won competition after competition and I believe Chuck's music and Gap's show played a huge part.

My favorite songs of his were Hill Where The Lord Hides, Chase the Clouds Away, and the Land of Make Believe. On the later the lyrics are beautiful, but I prefer it without the singing and just listening to Chuck's awesome horn playing.

May he RIP. His beautiful music was a gift to all who heard it.
