" independent ", would seem to say not governed by the anybody, such as the Fed. govt. nor influenced by politics. The Governors of the Fed Independent Bank sole purpose is to have the ability to set interest rates free of political meddling. This country does need that ability, "free of political meddling". Seems we do have one hell of a lot of greedy politicians. GOP could and may stand for Greedy Old Party. Yes ?
