14. This is so surreal.

If anyone had tried to tell me that the day would come when the White House would be occupied by a deranged raving lunatic, and ALL of those with the power to do anything (i.e., Congress, which has the power to impeach and the Vice President and cabinet who have the ability to invoke the 25th amendment) would be sitting around staring into space and acting like everything is totally fine while the lunatic does all kinds of crazy stuff, I would not have believed it. I would have laughed and said, "Oh, don't be ridiculous! That would never happen!"

That's what's so maddening about the situation this country is in. The sheer unreality of having to sit by and watch helplessly while a mad man creates one horror after another and NO ONE DOES ANYTHING TO STOP HIM is agonizing. Sometimes I feel like I must be losing my own mind, because it's so hard to believe all of this is really happening!

The hell of it is, I don't even know who to complain to. My House rep and both of my state's senators are all Democrats, which is great in theory, but the rep and one of tbe senators are retiring at the end of this year snd will not be running for reelection this fall. They'll both eventually be replaced by "players to be named later," but in the meantime, they're lame ducks. My other senator is awesome, but what the hell can she do when her hands are tied, thanks to all the do nothing Republican senators she's surrounded by? I feel like there's no one I can turn to.

If I was represented by Republicans in both Houses, it would suck, but at least I could have the satisfaction of bombarding them with angry letters calling them out for betraying the oaths they swore when they took office and berating them for their cowardice. But what can I say to three Democrats who are outnumbered by Republicans who can't be bothered to pull their heads out of their asses and stop the Orange Hellbeast before he finishes destroying our democracy? I'm really at a loss. /end rant

I used this gif in a post yesterday, and I feel like I'm going to be using it a lot as long as this insane situation doesn't change.
