As the U.S. military continues its campaign targeting alleged drug cartel boats, Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is convening a rare meeting of all of the top military leaders from the 34 countries in the Western Hemisphere.
This will be the first time that such a meeting has been convened and appears to be focused on improving cooperation against drug trafficking and criminal organizations. The meeting is set for Feb. 11, according to a statement from the Joint Chiefs of Staff provided to ABC News.
The meeting was confirmed to ABC News the same day the U.S. military announced another strike targeting an alleged narco-trafficking vessel in the Eastern Pacific, killing two people.
"Chiefs of defense and senior military representatives from 34 nations will meet to build shared understanding of common security priorities and strengthen regional cooperation," the statement said.
