Yesterday

What has happened is that since the AUMFs for Iraq and Afghanistan were passed, Presidents were still using that authority to carry out military operations. But those AUMFs were FINALLY (after many years) REPEALED in the FY 2026 NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) (signed Dec. 18, 2025).

So now we are in uncharted territory with 45 needing a new authority.
