first statewide like Governor or U.S. Senator, and later for a potential Presidential run.
It looked like he was being groomed for that path (he apparently wanted to or did run for governor but Spanberger was the favorite). And it seems the glamour and glory might have gone to his head too. He was apparently accused of sexual assault so it almost sounds like what happened with Swallwell, and in this case, his checkered past may have triggered the divorce issue (was apparently nasty), and that (along with the missed governor opportunity), was all it took to set him off.

I'm friends with his former campaign manager. Fairfax was done with no new aspirations
