As a social worker, my wife sometimes ran into this kind of situation. One time, one of her "charges," a Moroccan teenager who didn't think my wife was giving her enough money for doing, essentially, nothing (her job was trying to place the unemployed back into the workforce, and arrange welfare payments to them if they were really trying to land a job). The teenager demanded that my wife "get" her more money, or else she would swear out a complaint against my wife for having hit her, i.e. physically assaulter her.

Luckily, there was someone else in another part of the office, not noticed by either my wife or the teenager, who stepped out after the threat had been made. The third person immediately said, "I heard that whole exchange, and I'll be happy to testify about your lie in court." My wife lucked out, because in Germany, the tendency is always to believe the accuser in such situations. The Napoleonic Code: Guilty until proven innocent.
